Almost 30 years later, the company saw a shift in ownership and focused on becoming the first carrier to haul imported steel through the Savannah ports. In 1986, Comcar purchased Coastal, where it became one of the largest flatbed carriers in the nation. Growth has come steadily to Coastal Transport, including a Coastal, Kennedy Trucking, and Specialized Transport divisions under the Coastal banner.

Coastal Transport was purchased by TFI International in 2020, running under BTC as a subsidiary. Headquartered in Savannah, GA, Coastal is now the flatbed carrier of BTC.

Coastal currently has five terminals through the southeastern US and operates from Chicago to New Orleans and all points east.
